Age and health challenges have caught up with Pete Edochie, the veteran actor. He is currently struggling to walk as well as experiencing swelling in different parts of his body.

Edochie revealed his health challenges during a visit to ailing Ghanaian actor Emmanuel Armah in Accra, where he also prayed for his colleague’s recovery and offered financial support for his care.

The 79-year-old film star said he has difficulty walking and sometimes experiences swelling in parts of his body, even as he remains hopeful of recovering.

Said Edochie: “Sitting down here, I’m not very well myself. Walking is a problem for me now, but I still have hope that I will recover myself.

“Sometimes I get up, and parts of my body are swollen. After some time, it goes down again. Like my hand is swollen now.

“I just keep asking God, ‘You are the author of life. Whenever you feel it’s time for me to go, just take me, don’t let me bother the people who are around me. Just take me”.

Edochie also expressed hope that his colleague and friend Armah would pull through.

Added he: “Emma, I believe you will recover someday. Sorry, Emma”.

Edochie began his career as a radio broadcaster in 1967. He made his acting debut in the 1985 adaptation of Chinua Achebe’s best-selling novel, ‘Things Fall Apart’.

In 1995, Edochie was featured in ‘Ikuku (Hurricane) 1’, his first movie since his performance in ‘Things Fall Apart’.

He has starred in over 200 movies and is considered one of the most influential and respected actors in Nigeria.

He has also received several awards and recognitions for his outstanding performances and craft.
