Deuteronomy 6:1-9
Introduction:
The objective of God from the beginning has always been to make man His friend. God created man not as a slave, but as a son. Everything that belongs to God, He wants man to share in.
“The earth is the LORD’S, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein”. Psalm 24:1 — Yet He gave man dominion over it. Genesis 1:26
But after creation, man fell. Man became a different creature altogether, and God grieved.
“And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart” Genesis 6:6.
Yet in His mercy, God did not abandon man. He brought back His silent truth — His Word, His Law — so that man can return to Him.
1. THE THIN LINE OF DIFFERENCE – God’s Law is Not Burdensome.
Man was made in the image of God.
“So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them”. Genesis 1:27 — And at first, they were naked and not ashamed. Genesis 2:25
Then God gave commandments — Do not steal, do not commit adultery, do not commit fornication, do not lie. These are not harsh laws. They are humane, straight, and easy to keep for anyone who loves God.
But man says, “God’s laws are too strict, too demanding.” God says, “My laws are for your good”.
“For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous”. 1 John 5:3.
“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service”. Romans 12:1.
“Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the LORD is risen upon thee”. Isaiah 60:1.
I have tasted the laws of God and I know they are good, comforting, and rewarding. The struggle we have today is not because God’s laws are hard, but because man wants to be left alone to do things his own way. But God says, “I am the LORD”. Exodus 20:2.
2. SEARCH FOR THE REALITY – The Word Must Be In Our Heart (Deuteronomy 6:1-9).
The Word of God is so clear that we need not search for truth anywhere else. The truth is in the Bible.
“Now these are the commandments, the statutes, and the judgments, which the LORD your God commanded to teach you, that ye might do them in the land whither ye go to possess it: That thou mightest fear the LORD thy God, to keep all his statutes and his commandments, which I command thee, thou, and thy son, and thy son’s son, all the days of thy life; and that thy days may be prolonged”. Deuteronomy 6:1-2.
God gave the Law not to punish, but to prolong our lives and make us fruitful.
He then gave a practical instruction for how this silent truth should be lived:
“And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes. And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates”. Deuteronomy 6:6-9
God was very specific. He wants His Word:
a) In our heart – not just in our head
b) In our mouth – we must talk about it at home, on the road, morning and night
c) On our hands – our actions must show it
d) On our houses – our families and homes must reflect it
“Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee”. Psalm 119:11.
“This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night…” Joshua 1:8.
That is the silent truth. God does not shout every day; He has already written His truth. Are you living by it?
3. THE UNDERLYING FACTOR – You Must Be Born Again.
The ultimate will of God is not just for you to obey laws, but to be transformed inside. The Law cannot change you; only a new birth can.
“Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God”. John 3:3.
This is the will of God for all men, women, and children. But many are still mingling and tangling with the world, waiting until truth meets them.
“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new”. 2 Corinthians 5:17.
“But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name”. John 1:12.
The silent truth is this: Salvation has come. Power to become a child of God is available now.
CONCLUSION:
Beloved, God wants you as His friend, but you cannot be His friend while still living in your old sinful nature. You need to encounter the silent truth — the Word — and let it change you from within.
Stop searching for peace in noise. The truth you need is quietly sitting in your Bible. It says “Come”.
“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest”. Matthew 11:28.
Today, let that Word enter your heart. Be born again. Let the old man die.
Pray this now: _Lord Jesus, I acknowledge that I have lived my own way. Today I open my heart to Your silent truth. Forgive me, wash me, and make me born again. I receive You as my Lord and Saviour. Amen.
If you prayed that, you are now a child of God. Go and live out His Word daily — in your heart, in your house, and on your lips.
God bless you.
