As Jesus Arose

Matthew 27:15-66; 28:1-20

The arrest of Jesus Christ and His subsequent trial by Pilate marked a pivotal moment in human history. The Jews, fueled by rejection and jealousy, exchanged Barabbas, a condemned criminal, for Jesus, the innocent Lamb of God (Matthew 27:15-26). Jesus, true to His nature, did not deny His kingship, saying, “It is as you say” (Matthew 27:11).

Pilate’s question, “What then shall I do with Jesus who is called Christ?” (Matthew 27:22), was met with a resounding cry, “Let Him be crucified!” (Matthew 27:23). The governor’s attempt to wash his hands of Jesus’ blood only highlighted the gravity of the situation (Matthew 27:24).

Yet, in God’s sovereignty, these events fulfilled prophecy and paved the way for our salvation (Isaiah 53:5, Romans 5:8). Jesus’ crucifixion was not the end; it was the beginning of the greatest story ever told.

After Jesus’ burial, the women returned to the tomb, only to find it empty (Matthew 28:1-6). The angel’s words, “Do not be afraid, for I know you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here; He is risen, just as He said” (Matthew 28:5-6), echo through the ages.

Today, Jesus sits at the right hand of God, watching and waiting (Hebrews 10:12-13). He will return to judge the living and the dead (Acts 17:31, 2 Timothy 4:1).

So, I ask: what’s your position regarding Jesus’ lordship? Will you accept Him as your Savior and Lord? (Romans 10:9-10). Remember, “the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night” (2 Peter 3:10).

As believers, let’s live with purpose, knowing we’ll give an account for our time, resources, and choices (Matthew 25:31-46). May we choose to follow Jesus wholeheartedly, surrendering our lives to His lordship.

May the Lord help us to choose Jesus as our Lord and Savior, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
