2027: Peter Obi Dismisses Claim Of Alliance With Jonathan Against Tinubu

Sir Peter Obi, 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), has said he is not in talks with former President Goodluck Jonathan to form a political alliance ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Obi’s media aide and National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement Worldwide, Dr. Yunusa Tanko, disclosed this, stating that there was no agreement or arrangement between the two leaders aimed at unseating President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Said Tanko: “My principal and the former president have a very good working relationship and they know each other very well. So, seeing them talk to each other does not mean anything. It should not be translated to mean anything other than a platonic discussion on how to move this country forward.

“But I don’t think there’s anything more than that. No discussion or pact around 2027. Even when they met in Ghana, I was there. So, there was nothing like that”.

The duo had met in September, when Obi stated that they had a fruitful meeting and discussed the state of the nation.

Wrote Obi then: “Today in Abuja, I met with my very dear elder brother, statesman, and leader, former President Goodluck Jonathan. We had a fruitful closed-door meeting and discussed the state of our dear nation”.

In recent weeks, however, there have been renewed calls for Jonathan to contest the presidency again after losing his re-election bid in 2015. These calls have come from several groups and a close ally.

The ally, who is also a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), stated in August that plans to draft the former President to contest on the PDP platform had reached an advanced stage, adding that Jonathan had accepted to run, with the aim of addressing Nigeria’s rising poverty, hardship, and widespread suffering in recent years.

    Datti Baba-Ahmed.  Datti-Baba Ahmed, the 2023 Labour Party (LP)  vice-presidential candidate, will make further damaging revelations about the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, if his supporters continue  attacking him over his comments on the former Anambra State governor.  Baba-Ahmed issued the warning while reacting to the backlash that followed his claim that Obi and his proposed running mate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, might struggle to secure support in northern Nigeria.  Speaking in an interview with Symfoni TV, the former vice-presidential candidate said his position was informed by his personal experience of the challenges Obi faced in gaining acceptance among northern voters during the 2023 presidential campaign.  He expressed concern that some supporters of  Obi, popularly known as Obidients, were quick to attack people who expressed opinions contrary to theirs.  Said he: “First, these people (Obidients) are always eager to attack. I said it is very unlikely that the North will support Peter Obi, very unlikely, because I know what I have faced”.  Baba-Ahmed recalled that shortly after joining  Obi on the Labour Party presidential ticket in 2022, he had to contend with allegations that the former Governor’s administration in Anambra State discriminated against northerners by requiring them to carry identification cards.  He also cited controversies surrounding the demolition of a mosque in Anambra State and a leaked telephone conversation between Obi and the founder of Living Faith Church, Bishop David Oyedepo, in which the former Governor repeatedly addressed the cleric as “Yes Daddy”.  Baba-Ahmed said the controversies created difficulties for the Labour Party’s campaign in northern communities, forcing him to work to counter the allegations and mobilise support for  Obi.  He questioned how Kwankwaso, who reportedly confronted Obi over the allegations of discrimination against northerners during a visit to Anambra State, would explain the issues to voters in Kano.  Stated he: “I wonder how Kwankwaso, who flew from Kano to Anambra to go and challenge Peter Obi: ‘Why are you driving (out northerners from your state)?’ You know that kind of thing. How will he now go to Kano and contradict himself, ‘No, no, no, it is not what happened?’”  Baba-Ahmed said he personally took Obi’s campaign to several northern locations, including Borno, Kano and Zaria, to address the controversies and market the former Governor to voters.  Said he: “I smuggled him to Borno, to the Caliphate, to Kano, to Zaria to market him. So I sorted that problem of ID card, mosque demolition, ‘Yes Daddy’”.  He maintained that the controversies surrounding the 2023 campaign could still affect  Obi’s acceptance in the North, insisting that his assessment of the region’s likely response to an Obi-Kwankwaso ticket remained unchanged.  The former vice-presidential candidate, however, warned Obi’s supporters against directing further attacks at him, saying he had more damaging information he could disclose.  Cautioned he: “They (Obidients) shouldn’t start that nonsense with me that they will start attacking me because I have more damaging things to say”.

    Melaye Mocks NASS Leadersip…Akpabio Senate Worst In History, Now Department Under Tinubu’s Villa

    The leadership of the National Assembly, especially the Senate under Senate president, Godswill Akpabio, is the worst in the history of Nigeria. Dino Melaye, Deputy Director-General of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), leveled this allegation on Monday in an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time, where he said the current Senate was a department under President Bola Tinubu’s Villa.  He said when an auditor and the person to be audited become friends, fraud will take place.  The former Kogi West Senator added that such was the case of the executive and the legislature under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.  Melaey said, in history, anytime the leadership of the National Assembly is determined by the Presidency, you will have an Akpabio-type of Senate.  Said he: “When an auditor and the person to be audited become friends, fraud will take place; that is the case of our executive and legislature. Akpabio Senate is worst in history. It is now a department under Tinubu’s Villa”.  Melaye further stated that the current Senate had failed Nigerians because it cannot check the executive.

    NIMC Raids Illegal NIN Enrolment Centres…Arrests Suspects In Abuja

    The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) Monday said it arrested several suspects involved in illegal enrolment, as well as seized equipment during a crackdown on unauthorised national identification number (NIN) registration and data modification centres in Gwagwalada and other locations in Abuja.  In a statement issued by Kayode Adegoke, NIMC’s head of corporate communications, the enforcement operation was conducted by the Commission’s Inspectorate Compliance and Enforcement Unit (ICEU).  Adegoke said the operation was part of efforts to curb illegal enrolment activities, unauthorised modification of personal data and extortion.  Read the statement: “NIMC notes that many of the problems people face with their National Identification Number (NIN) stem from bypassing official enrolment procedures.  “NIN enrolment can only be done at any of the Commission’s approved Centres, while modification of data can be done via self-servicemodification. nimc gov.ng.  “NIN holders should download the NINAuthapplication from the iOS App Store and the Android Play Store for the protection of their NIN, for printing of the NIN sLip, and other security benefits”.  Adegoke quoted Abisoye Coker-Odusote, NIMC director-general (DG), reiterating the Commission’s zero tolerance for extortion and unethical conduct.  Coker-Odusote said the Commission remained committed to providing seamless NIN enrolment services for Nigerians and legal residents.  She urged all NIN applicants and holders to use only NIMC-approved channels for enrolment and related services.  Added she: “For accurate information, visit www.nimc.gov.ng or follow NIMC’s verified social media handles. The toll-free line is 0800 0616 462″.
