W/Police Officer Misses National Anthem Lyrics @ Imo Retreat

What seems like an embarrassing moment, has played out in a video showing a female police officer who wrongly recites Nigeria’s national anthem has gone viral.

The woman police officer in the footage, leads the recitation of the national anthem at the conference and retreat for senior operatives in Imo State.

The retreat, attended by senior police and military officers, took place on Monday in Owerri, the Imo State capital.

Hope Uzodinma, Imo State governor, was present at the event.

In the usual manner in government events, Nigeria’s national anthem is usually recited at the opening of the programme.

During the recitation of the national anthem at the event, the female police officer could be seen and heard not properly reciting the lyrics .

The presentation of the police officer came as a surprise to many attendees at the event.

    Obi To FG: Declare Hunger As National Emergency

    The Federal Government was Friday asked to declare a national emergency on hunger. Sir Peter Obi, Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, made the call in an X post to mark World Food Day, saying no Nigerian deserves to go to bed hungry.  The Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) estimates that about 36 million Nigerians would face acute hunger this year.  The former Governor of Anambra State said Nigeria’s hunger crisis had worsened, with the country ranking 117th out of 125 countries, compared with 109th in 2023, when the current administration took office.  While the figure is correct, the 2026 Global Hunger Index (GHI), which Obi cited, ranked Nigeria 117th out of 122 countries. Although, 136 countries were assessed for the report, only 122 had sufficient data to calculate hunger scores and determine rankings.  Obi said the hunger situation was troubling given Nigeria’s vast arable land, noting that about 60 percent remained uncultivated and provided hidesout for non-state actors.  He said hunger, poverty and insecurity continued to affect millions of families despite the country’s agricultural potential.  Said Obi: “On World Food Day, the message is clear: Nigerians deserve a country where no family goes to bed hungry, farmers can work without fear, and poverty and insecurity are confronted with urgency and compassion”.  The NDC presidential candidate said if elected president, his administration would prioritise security and provide farmers with targeted grants, subsidies and other forms of support to boost agricultural production.   He said farmers must be able to return to their farms and work in peace and dignity.  Obi added that he joined rural women across Nigeria on Friday to mark International Rural Women’s Day, noting that their contributions to food production underscored the need to address hunger as a national emergency.

    South-African Pastor, Wife Nabbed Over 200 Found in ‘Illegal Rehab Centre’

    Police at the rehab.  Police in South-Africa Thursday, October 15 arrested a pastor and his wife after a raid on a church-run rehabilitation centre in Mpumalanga province revealed shocking living conditions.  Around 200 victims were discovered at the facility, including children and adults believed to be receiving treatment for drug addiction, local media reported.  Some were reportedly chained together, while others had untreated sores on their bodies. Inspectors also found over-crowded sleeping areas, broken toilets and no running water.  The centre was operating without the required authorisation, disclosed authorities.  Officials said the pastor and his wife had reported that they could accommodate just 60 people. However, the inspection uncovered more than 200 residents, including at least 30 women.  An 11-year-old boy and a 16-year-old girl were also found sharing accommodation with adults.  The Department of Social Development said residents were required to pay 3,000 Rand, approximately $182, each month. Nearly half of the fees reportedly went to the church.  Following the raid, 14 people were admitted to hospital for medical attention, while 132 others were returned to their families.  The couple faces kidnapping charges, with police investigating whether further offences were committed. They are due to appear before a court on Monday.  The case has raised fresh concerns about the growing number of illegal drug rehabilitation centres in South-Africa.  Authorities have been struggling to tackle unregistered treatment facilities amid increasing demand for addiction services.  In 2025, the Department of Social Development identified more than 100 centres operating illegally nationwide, with the highest concentration in Gauteng, the province that includes Johannesburg.
