Uche Ogbuagu
The Imo State House of Assembly on Thursday removed its Majority Leader, Uche Ogbuagu.
Ogbuagu, who represents Ikeduru State Constituency, had defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) shortly after Emeka Ihedioha was removed in January 2020 by the Supreme Court as Governor in order to emerge a principal officer of the House.
At the House plenary held under tight security on Thursday, Ogbuagu was sacked by a majority vote.
The Speaker, Paul Emezim, who presided over the plenary announced that the Majority Leader of the House had been removed.
In a swift reaction however, the ousted Majority Leader of the Imo House of Assembly, Uche Ogbuagu (APC – Ikeduru),who had already been replaced with Kanayo Njoku (APC-Owerri West) as the new Majority Leader, in a statement, described Emeziem’s action as “comic”.
Ognuagu who also called for calm, wondered why the letter he wrote to the House leadership on Wednesday was disregarded.
Stated he: “I am surprised that the Speaker, Mr Paul Emeziem, decided to discountenance my letter to him yesterday, dated March 3, 2021 and read his ‘Comic letter of Removal’.
“There have been bombardment of calls and SMS to my phone lines by concerned Imolites and Houses across the globe to confirm the incidence”.
Ogbuagu said he was studying the development and would consult with the party’s leadership.
