Gov. Nyesom Wike of Rivers State
Despite a statement issued by the Rivers State government banning #EndSARS protest in the state, governor of the state, Nyesom Woke, has said that he was not against the mass action happening across various states on the country.
Wike, it will be recalled, in a statement by Paulinus Nsirim, the Commissioner for Information and Communications in the State, on Monday banned the EndSARS protest which was to take place on Tuesday, October 13, 2020.
According to him, the decision to ban the proposed protest followed the scrapping of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad by Mohammed Adamu, the Inspector General of Police on Sunday
However, following a series of backlash from people across the country, the Governor in a tweet via his Twitter account on Tuesday evening said he was not against the SARS movement, adding that he wanted and supported a total reform of the Nigerian police force.
Tweeted he: “It is not only ending SARS, every Nigerian should support the total reform of the Police. We shouldn’t make a mistake. If we End SARS as they have done, the same police people would be used to form another body.
“That is what I have always supported and called for”.
