President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is scheduled to Monday, January 26, jet out from Abuja to embark on a state visit to the Republic of Türkiye. This was disclosed in a statement issued on Saturday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who further explained that the visit was part of efforts to deepen bilateral relations between Nigeria and the Eurasian nation.
The visit, the statement offered, was also aimed at strengthening the existing cordial ties between both countries and exploring new areas of cooperation.
The statement revealed that discussions during the visit would focus on such key sectors as security, education, social development, innovation and aviation.
It added that both countries would also engage in strategic political and diplomatic talks centred on shared values in finance, communication, trade and investment.
Türkiye’s President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the statement recalled, paid an official visit to Nigeria between October 19 and 20, 2021, which further consolidated relations between the two nations.
It noted that President Tinubu’s visit would feature meetings with high-ranking officials of the Turkish government, as well as the signing of several memoranda of understanding (MoUs).
The agreements are expected to cover areas including scientific research, energy, technical cooperation, media and communications, military cooperation and protocol.
A Nigeria–Türkiye business forum will also be held during the visit, bringing together investors from both countries to explore mutual investment opportunities and areas of economic interest.
Members of President Tinubu’s entourage for the bilateral engagements include the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar; the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi, SAN; the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (rtd); and the Chairman, House Committee on Defence, Hon. Jimi Benson.
Other officials listed are the Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Imaan Suleiman-Ibrahim; the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo; the Minister of Culture and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa; the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; and the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed.
President Tinubu is expected to return to the country at the conclusion of the state visit.
