The residents of Tashar Kaɗanya community, in Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State, are to pay a ₦60 million levy imposed on them by bandits who also threatened to launch an attack if the money was not paid.
This was revealed by security analyst, @DanKatsina50, on his X handle on Monday.
He said that the bandits gave the community a deadline to pay the money, prompting residents to begin fleeing for their lives.
Security authorities are yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident.
However, the development has reignited concerns over the persistent attacks by bandits in parts of Katsina State, despite efforts by the Government to curb the violence.
Kankara LGA has long suffered from bandit attacks, including kidnappings for ransom.
This latest demand by the bandits may further worsen the security and humanitarian situation in the area.
