Members of the Kogi State House of Assembly have called on President Bola Ahmed Tinibu to sack Ola Olukoyede, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission chairman, demanding that he be replaced with another person.
They accused the anti-graft agency under Olukoyede’s watch, of attacking the Kogi State governor’s lodge unprovoked and suggested the Commission was acting as if it was above the law.
The lawmakers also claimed that there were assassination attempts on the former Governor of the State, Yahaya Bello, which they saw as a threat to the current Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo.
Calling on President Tinubu to sack Ola Olukoyede, the EFCC boss, and replace him with a new one, the Assemblymen said his actions showed incompetence.
During a plenary session, the lawmakers expressed their strong disapproval of EFCC’s “unjustified assault” on the Kogi State Government Lodge, characterising it as an affront to Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo and the Kogi people.
Said Aliyu Yusuf, while delivering the House’s resolution: “The House formally categorises the April 17 and September 18 incidents as assassination attempts on the former Governor, and by extension, a threat to the life of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo.
“The unprovoked attack on the Governor’s Lodge and the firing of live rounds within a diplomatic residential zone further demonstrate that the EFCC has fully marinated in a sense of its own importance and power and now considers itself not only above the law but unanswerable to anyone or institution for its actions.
“Because the EFCC Chairman has shown constantly gross incompetence, the House has resolved that the President should relieve him of his appointment with immediate effect and replace him with a competent officer who will give Mr President’s crusade for the rule of law the needed effectiveness”.
