Aisha Yesufu, Nigerian activist, has vowed to campaign against Peter Obi should he seek a vice presidential role in the 2027 elections.
Yesufu, in a video posted on Monday, September 16, questions why the most qualified individuals are often pushed into secondary roles, challenging Obi’s apparent willingness to be a vice president under another candidate.
Obi, Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate in 2023, had reportedly earlier expressed readiness to collaborate with other politicians, including Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
Stated Obi: “I’m ready to collaborate with anyone interested in lifting people out of poverty”.
He emphasised that any collaboration should focus on improving citizens’ lives rather than just winning elections.
Stated Obi while clarifying his position in an interview with News Central: “Quite frankly, for me, I’m not desperate to be Nigerian president. I am desperate to see Nigeria work. If I see people who can do the work better, I will”.
However, he recently denied reports suggesting he would accept a vice presidential role, calling it a distortion of his statement.
Asserted Obi: “I do not want to be one of those preoccupied with 2027 while Nigerians are suffering from hunger, poverty, insecurity, and other pressing challenges”.
