Jazz music genre is seemingly appealing to many Nigerians. This may be a fitting explanation for US-based Nigerian jazz vocalist, Douyé Youduba, not being a household name in the country.
But as a gutsy female artiste, she is poised to make inroads into the Continent’s world of jazz; strike a lifetime Union with the music form which she most considers her choice of artistic delivery.
Youduba, In a chat Wednesday, shared insights into her kind of music, noting that there was no difference between present-day music and the oldies.
Said she: “Quality music is not bound by time or era. It is a reflection of the human experience, and as long as there are artistes who are passionate about their craft and committed to creating something meaningful, there will always be quality music for us to enjoy and be inspired by.

Douyé is a Nigerian-born jazz music exponent who has gained recognition worldwide for her sonorous and melodic voice. She was born and raised in Nigeria, where she was introduced to jazz music by her father at a young age. After moving to the United States, she began performing as a jazz singer in venues throughout California.
Douyé has released multiple albums, including “Journey”, “Quatro”, “Daddy Said So”, and “Golden Sekere” which showcase her unique blend of jazz, soul, and pop music.
Her artistic offering has attracted huge critical acclaim for its emotional depth and powerful storytelling, and she has been recognised for her contributions to the jazz genre. In addition to her music career, she founded her own record label, Groove Note Records, and has spoken out about the importance of supporting fellow musicians in the music industry.
