Luke 20:1-8.
The story in the Scriptures about how Jesus dealt with the chief priests and the scribes is a fitting example of how to deal with the seemingly knowlegeable unbeliever. It is noteworthy that some non-believers are usually ahead of themselves and would answer questions or give answers to things they have no business with.
Jesus is the Almighty God. He knows what is at stake at every point in time when a question is asked. There is no need to come at Him without Him knowing. He was adequately prepared to deal with the question. The chief priests and the scribes “..spake unto him saying, tell us by what authority doest thou these things?” or who is he that gave thee authority? Luke 20 v2.
And the LORD Jesus Christ answered them “… I will also ask you one thing , and answer me .The baptism of John was it from heaven , or of men” v4.
After looking at each other and guessing at what they should answer Him, they returned an answer of “no comment”.
And the LORD Jesus Christ made no haste in returning a ” no answer” to their question as well. By implication, both sides got no answers to their questions. They parted in peace, waiting for another day to come.
I am beginning to look at the various instances of Jesus encountering these mere men of understanding . Yes, they are men of understanding, but they lack the most basic need of their calling, which is the word of God. For if they had had it, they would have been able to fully comprehend their interaction with Jesus Christ.
We are all equally in similar situations. What will you say about a man who was asked about his soul? About his life? About his relationship with God? And about his relationship with the people around him? He may find answers to them , but not according to the demand of heaven. He may tell you that they are all good and well doing. They are good and doing their business. They are good and attending to their daily activities. And all that. While this is cool , the Master needs a more enriching answer: that is, He wants to know that they would end up in heaven. The Master will always want us to administer heaven first in whatever we are doing or saying. And then , the other things as it were.
“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” Matt 6 : 33
What does it profit a man to gain the whole world and to lose his soul. And I ask you again: How are you doing? How are you preparing your soul with eternity in view?
Many people are interested in seeking out the essence of their entire life , but without first settling the most important aspect of their Iife, which is being born again. May be you are like that. You have settled all the needs of your life. Currently, you are asking yourself : What should I do? like the man in the Bible. My dear friend, I know that you are doing it right. But one thing is still lacking. And that is the way of Jesus Christ. Accept Him today. And all your questions will receive answers.
Maybe you are looking for a genuine opportunity for God to grant you a pleasant good rest when you die. Yes, that is doable, but the question you have to answer is to what extent you have settled your account with sin. The sins of lying , cheating, borrowing and not paying, gesting, adultery, fornication, human slaughter, witchcraft, sedition , etc. These are not sins you should keep in your life. They are sins that can affect your ending as well as you want to. And as Jesus asked the chief priests and scribes : what is your response ? Will you behave like these beautiful but blind leaders of the people who know the truth but refuse to acknowledge it?
What would you do with Jesus? What is the source of your confidence, and are you sure that confidence is well placed?
Please give thoughts to the above. God bless you.
