Hon. Philip Shaibu, Edo State deputy gov.

A seven-man panel constituted by the Chief Justice of Edo State to investigate allegations against the Deputy Governor, Rt. Honourable Philip Shaibu, was announced at the weekend as per Section 188(5) of the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria (as amended),

Headed by retired Justice S.A. Omonua, the panel includes notable individuals such as Professor Violet Aigbokhaebo and Mr. Idris Abdulkareen.

Following a resolution by the Edo State House of Assembly, the Chief Judge, Justice D.I. Okungbowa, initiated the panel’s formation.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Governor has sought legal recourse, filing an ex-parte motion in an Abuja Federal High Court to halt the impeachment process.

However, the court deferred the matter to April 15, 2024, for further deliberation, rejecting an immediate restraining order but allowing for parties to be served through substituted means.
