Hardship: Woman Puts Up 5-Year-Old Son For Sale In Rivers Market

An unknown woman caused stir in a market at Bishop Okoye Street in Mile 3, Diobu, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Saturday, when she brought a five-year-old boy she claimed to be her son and put him up for sale.

The incident reportedly occurred at about 3:40pm as customers and traders surrounded the woman in amazement.

Mr Nelson Tasie, former Vice Chairman of Goat Meat Sellers Association, Bishop Okoye branch, who reportedly witnessed the scene told a source that the woman said that life was very difficult; she could no longer take care of herself and the child, which was why she opted to sell him.

Mr. Tasie said that since he was in haste, he advised that the woman and the child should be taken to the Nkpolu Police Division, Mile 3 Diobu, so that the police could wade into the matter.

He disclosed that concerned traders and customers were on their way with the woman and her child to the police station when he left the scene.

The police were yet to respond officially to the incident
