Mr. Fidelis Tapgun, fmr Gov of Plateau State.

The killing of Hon. Sylvanus Namang, All Progressive Congress (APC), Plateau State Publicity Secretary, by unknown gunmen in Pankshin Local Government Area of the State, was on Tuesday condemned by Amb. Fidelis Tapgun, a former governor of the State.

Namang was murdered in cold blood by gunmen on Sunday evening in a popular joint in Pankshin where he went to buy some items after attending a burial ceremony, Media reports confirms.

However, describing the killing as unfortunate and shocking, Tapgun said the late scribe-man was a dedicated spokesman of the APC on the Plateau who made an impact on the party and State as a whole.

The former governor described the perpetrators of the dastardly act as cowards whose stock in trade is to maim and kill innocent citizens, just as he requested the security agencies to take immediate action so as to arrest the culprits and make them face the full wrath of the law.

He extended his sincere condolences to the family Namang left behind, praying to God to wrap them with soothing comfort and grant him eternal rest.

He also called on the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), to swing into action by charging the security operatives to unearth those behind the killing of one of their own rather than always go to pay courtesy calls instead of embarking on investigative Journalism.

While regretting the conflicting accounts of the despicable gruesome murder, Tapgun wondered why the NUJ would not drive to Pankshin, the spot where the incident took place to investigate the real cause of the death of Namang.

He said the death of the renowned Journalist was an unpardonable crime in every civilised clime, calling on the Plateau chapter of the NUJ to seat up and task security operatives to bring justice to the death of one of their own.

Said Tap gun: “I also call on security agencies to intensify efforts to track down the perpetrators of the crime and bring them to justice”.

The late Namang was an Editor of the State owned Nigerian Standard newspaper, General Manager Plateau Publishing Company, Director Radio Nigeria, Former Commissioner, Media aide, Consultant to many VIPs and Organisations and the State Publicity Secretary to the APC.
