Sir. Peter Obi, Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party’s approach to politics was at the weekend comended by, Seyi Makinde, Oyo State Governor, who described it mature and exemplary.
A statement released by Obi’s Media P.A, Michael Jude Nwolisa, made available to the media, disclosed that Governor Makinde noted in particular, Obi’s display of sportsmanship and remarkable maturity throughout and after the 2023 presidential elections.
Speaking at the 12th Annual Zik Lecture Series in Awka themed “Reclaiming Zik’s World: Claiming Justice and Africa’s Sustainable Development”, Makinde drew parallels between Obi and Nnamdi Azikiwe, highlighting Obi’s commitment to the nation’s unity despite unfavorable election outcomes.
Emphasising the importance of such conduct, and its vital role in Nigeria’s progress, Makinde urged Nigerians to rise above tribal associations, just as he stressed the need for collective contributions toward national development and unity.
Reflecting on Azikiwe’s ideals, Makinde envisioned a united Nigeria, promoting fair structures to foster coherence and healthy competition among federating units for the greater good rather than division.
Makinde in conclusion, advocated for a comprehensive restructuring of the country, believing it would significantly benefit Nigeria as a whole.
