Over 500 people have got displaced from their houses by flood in Unguwan Tana, a community in Jimeta, Yola North Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
The flood was attributed to overflow of River Benue along its banks around the community due mainly to release of water from Lagdo Dam in Cameroon.
The affected persons are now taking shelter at the Government Day Secondary School, Limawa, Jimeta where academic activities have been affected.
Musa Jada, the school principal, said several of the classrooms were being occupied by some of the displaced persons.
Prof. Kaletapwa Farauta, the state deputy governor, who visited the community Wednesday afternoon, promised government’s intervention, saying it was partnering with non-governmental organisations to bring succour to victims of the disaster.
She urged other people living along the banks of the River Benue to relocate to higher ground as the volume of water in the River Benue was expected to increase further.
