The Copyright Society of Nigeria (COSON) was on Tuesday acknowledged as occupying important place in Nigeria’s match towards economic development as Intellectual property has become a key resource of the country.
Dr. Chinyere Almona, Director-General of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), made this observation when she led a delegation of the Chamber to a meeting with COSON at the COSON House in Ikeja, Lagos State on Tuesday, May 16, 2023.
Noting the important place that COSON, a frontline member of the chamber, had come to occupy in the nation’s match towards economic development as Intellectual property had become a key resource of the Nigerian nation,at the meeting attended by several executive members of the Chamber and directors of COSON, the chamber, the LCCI D-G said that it had become very important for the Chamber to interact and work closely with COSON for the advancement of the nation’s intellectual property resources.
Responding, Chief Tony Okoroji, COSON chairman, thanked the LCCI delegation for recognising the important role that COSON was playing both as a collective management organisation and a critical advocacy agent for respect and promotion of creativity in Nigeria.
He assured the LCCI delegation that COSON would work closely with the Chamber for the design and promotion of appropriate policies for the growth of the creative industry in Nigeria.
The LCCI delegation which presented a plaque to COSON in appreciation of its contribution to the nation’s development also had in attendance, Mr. Ade Olufeko, Chairman, Creative and Entertainment Group, LCCI, Dr. Tony Monye, Director, Research and Advocacy, LCCI, Mr. Femi Bakare, Senior Membership Relations Officer, LCCI, and Mr. Francis Momoh, Assistant Manager Corporate Communications, LCCI.
Representing COSON at the meeting were, Mrs. Bernnice Ereneghe-Ashibogwu, CEO/GM COSON, COSON directors – Rechard Cole, Kenny St. Brown, Righteousman Erhaboh, Koffi Idowu-Noel. Others included Vincent Adawsisi, Deputy General-Manager, COSON and Mandu Uwem Umoh, Senior Communication Executive, COSON.
