The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), has decided to appeal against the National Industrial Court of Nigeria (NICN) order issued its members to end the seven-month-long strike.

The University of Abuja chapter chairman of ASUU, Dr Kasim Umar, stated this in his reaction to the court orderin Abuja, saying that the National Executive Council (NEC) of ASUU would meet to conclude modalities on the appeal process.

Reacting to the order also, Prof. Ahmed Modibbo Mohammed, Pro-Cancellor of the University of Abuja, advised the Federal Government to apply caution in handling the crisis with the Union, maintaining that the said court order could not resolve the lingering crisis between ASUU and the government.

Professor Modibbo, while appealing to both the government and ASUU to embrace dialogue in order to find a lasting solution to the strike, insisted that resorting to force was not a solution.

He insisted that dialogue remained the best means of resolving the crisis rather than just issuing a fiat order.
