Africa Day is marked annually to commemorate the establishment of the African Union (AU) in 2002, previously known as the Organisation of African Unity (OAU) in 1963.

YouTube, in a statement, said artistes to perform at the concert included those from Congo, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, South Africa, and Tanzania.

Listed as acts to entertain at the show, are, Davido, D’banj, Busiswa Gqulu, CKay, and Drizilik. Others are, Innoss’B, Kamo Mpela, Mayorkun, Reekado Banks, Yemi Alade, Zuchu and Kamo Mpela, the South African singer and dancer.

This being the third edition of the annual concert, the event will be hosted by Idris Elba, the British movie star.

Speaking about the event, Alex Okosi, managing director of YouTube’s emerging markets, said the initiative was part of the platform’s drive to promote African artistes.

Said Okosi: “YouTube as a platform has been a mainline for connecting African artistes to people all around the world and the Africa Day Concert is an opportunity to reaffirm YouTube’s support for African artistes as they showcase the vibrant sounds and culture that make Africa truly unique”.

This year’s concert will be streamed exclusively on YouTube.
