Senior Nigerian golfers from age 55 years and above, converged on Lagos for the second GolfSixes Tournament tagged ‘Greensome 2021’, organised by 4E Sports Promotion ltd, at the Ikeja Golf Club, Lagos.

The tournament took place from September 10-11, witnessing classic golfing from participants who travelled from different parts of Nigeria and the world to be part of the annual GolfSixes Nigerian golf tour.

The first day of the event teed-off with different skills displayed by all 64 players grouped into 16 teams of four, comprising both male and female players. Most of the golfers were having a first-time experience in a GolfSixes Tournament.

At the end of day one, many of the participants had dropped putts and holes with others scoring their way into the final of the event, set to be crowned winners on day-two, Sunday, September the 11.

The day-two saw fewer actions on the golf but more on the floor. Four teams emerged winners on the final day-two.

1st place – Chris Obue, Musbau Amolegbe, Bisola Ladipo, Abel Edinomo
2nd place – Fred Uwhereka, Rasaki Muritala, Yomi Egbe, Doyin Owolabi
3rd place – Austin Aigbotsua, Evelyn Oyome, Jimoh Ogundare, Zed Jituboh
4th place – Oby Jolayemi, Anthony Abolarin, Nkoli Moka, Moses Ojo

Participants applauded the organisation of the GolfSixes tournament and praised 4E Sports for promoting the health and sporting benefits of golf to senior citizens.

Said former Lady Captain of the Ladies Section of IBB Golf and Country Club, Dr. Joyce Barber, participating in her second Golf Sixes tournament: “Golf and the working is good for our health. It is just good for our musculo-skeletal system – the heart and the good companionship”.

Joyce asked for more tournaments adding “definitely I will go for it, 100%”.

Said Dr. Gabriel Olowo of Golfview Hotel, sponsor and partner of the GolfSixes Tournament: “it (GolfSixes format) shows tolerance. Shows cooperation and all of the ways for society to move forward.

“This is very nice for a lot of our senior citizens (who are living a sedentary life). It helps them stay in shape and live to a very good old age in health”.

Some other participants reacted favourably to the event.

Observed Ruth Oluwatosin: “It’s a new experience exchanging with other people, not finishing with yourself. It was fun – it was a different ball game”.

Noted Gen. Musbau Amolegbe: “it’s been very nice, a nice experience. It’s been long I had this type of alternate ball (play) and I had a partner who’s very good”.

Remarked Jimmie Sowetan: “the GolfSixes is an interesting way of playing 18-holes. You play six holes three times and you alternate team members”.

The next GolfSixes Nigeria Tournament will hold in a yet to be named venue in the South-South part of the country.
