In the wake of the attack on the Imo State police Command headquarters, and the Correctional Centre Oweeri, on Monday by gunmen, the Igbo National Council (INC) has demanded for the arrest of all security heads in the State.
Chilos Godsent, President General of the Igbo group, in a statement noted that this had become necessary following their inability, and incompetence to avert the incident, just as he condemned the attack which he claimed was politically motivated, considering its simultaneous occurrence in the State.
Godsent therefore urged the Federal Government to detrabilise the process of recruitment, training and promotion of members of the Nigeria security agencies for better functioning.
Said he: “We are very surprised that a number of gunmen can move into the heart of Owerri capital city with the number of vehicles they came in with and yet could not be spotted by the police, noting that there are several police check points within the government house Roundabout in Owerri. This is a complete failure of intelligence on the side of the security agencies.
Godsent therefore urged the Federal Government to carry out a thorough forensic investigation of the on-going militarisation of South-East zone of Nigeria.
