The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office in Ondo State has been gutted by fire. The fire outbreak which started around 8:48 pm at the ICT unit of the commission was yet to be contained as at press time.
Over 5000 card readers had been destroyed in the inferno. With the cause of the outbreak unknown, men of the fire service were yet to arrive at the scene.
The Ondo State fire service is less than 500 meters from the commission.
The commission is situated in Alagbaka area of Akure, the state capital.
Governorship election in the state had been scheduled for October 10, 2020.
