Almost two years after the Federal High Court, Enugu presided over by Justice Ibrahim Buba, in July 2018 ordered Efe Omorogbe to stop parading himself as Chairman of COSON, with a subsequent order on September 26, 2019 for him to pay the sum of =N=200,000.00 to the plaintiffs comprising members of the Copyright Society of Nigeria (COSON), including music icon, Sir Victor Uwaifo, he, (Efe Omorogbe) is yet to obey the order of the court.
Although, Efe Omoregbe had rushed earlier in the year to pay another sum of =N=200,000.00 awarded against him to Chief Tony Okoroji by an Ikeja High Court judge, Justice Josephine Oyefeso, he has not complied with the order of the Federal High Court, Enugu.
Recall that following the 2017 failed ‘coup’ led by Mr. Efe Omorogbe of Nowmuzik to topple COSON Chairman, Chief Tony Okoroji from his position, some members of COSON including music icon, Sir Victor Uwaifo, went to the Federal High Court in Enugu to challenge the move to parade himself as chairman of COSON, resulting in the the the judge, ordering Efe Omorogbe to stop parading himself as the chairman of COSON.
Not satisfied with the court order, Omorogbe and his supporters applied to the Federal High Court, Enugu for the order to be set aside. Once again, they lost, as on Thursday, September 26, 2019, Omorogbe and his group were berated by the Judge of the Federal High Court, Enugu who ordered them to pay =N=200,000 cost to the COSON members for what the judge described as ‘forum shopping’ and ‘abuse of court process’.
www.beats-onit.com gathered that the plaintiffs in the case are very angry and threatening to commence the process of levying execution on the assets of Efe Omorogbe and his group to recover the debt.
Speaking to www.beats-onit.com, Sir Angus Nwangwu, a COSON member resident in Enugu who is one of the plaintiffs in the law suit, said, “Efe Omorogbe and Co must understand that this is not a joke. A court has ordered them to pay us and they must pay. Efe must pay. He entered this game with his eyes open. He must pay.
“We are not going to accept any further delay. I was present at COSON House when COSON members in their hundreds bluntly told Efe that we do not want him as our chairman. Instead of walking away as a gentleman and a democrat, he started making all kinds of trouble for COSON so as to destroy our great organization.
“Because of his stubbornness, COSON members have lost a lot of money. Efe cannot go scot free. He must pay so that others will learn. Efe Omorogbe’s case is like that of a fly wey no get legal adviser. E go follow dead body enter grave!”
The traducers of COSON Chairman, Chief Tony Okoroji, it was learnt have not been having it good. Less than two weeks ago, Justice A. A. Oyebanji of the Lagos State High Court restrained the self-acclaimed factional President of PMAN, Mr. Pretty Okafor, a well-known traducer of Tony Okoroji, from further defaming Okoroji and also awarded two million naira in general damages against Pretty Okafor.
Another alleged traducer of Chief Okoroji, NCC Director General, Mr. John Asein is facing tremendous pressure on his job due to wide reports of alleged corruption, abuse of power and conflict of interest.
In his reaction to the court verdict against Pretty Okafor, Okoroji’s lawyer, James Ononiwu of Whitedove Solicitors, expressed certainty that one by one, all the foes of Chief Tony Okoroji would fall.
Said Ononiwu: “Chief Tony Okoroji is a good man. He is a good man”.
