=N=200,000.00 Court Order: Efe Omorogbe Hastens To Pay Tony Okoroji

Barr. James Ononiwu, COSON Lawyer and Tony Okoroji, Chairman, Copyright Society of Nigeria (COSON).

Artiste Manager, Efe Omorogbe of Nowmuzik, has quietly rushed to pay the sum of =N=200,000.00 into the account of Whitedove Solicitors, lawyers to Chief Tony Okoroji, Chairman, Copyright Society of Nigeria (COSON).

The payment which was made during the last Christmas and New Year holidays, www.beats-onit.com exclusively gathered, was in compliance with the order of a Lagos High Court Judge, Mrs. Josephine Oyefeso made on February 13, 2019.

Justice Oyefeso, it will be recalled, had ordered Mr. Efe Omorogbe to pay COSON Chairman, Chief Tony Okoroji a total of =N=200,000.00 as cost for truncating the trial which was about to begin in two defamation cases brought by Chief Okoroji against Omorogbe.

www.beats-onit.com checks further revealed that for over nine months, Mr. Omorogbe struggled, failed or neglected to pay the money prompting Okoroji’s lawyers to write warning letters to him, stressing that should he fail to pay up, within two weeks, Garnishee proceedings would be commenced to levy execution on Omorogbe’s property over the debt.

Meanwhile, Efe Omorogbe still owes another =N=200,000.00 which was awarded against him by Justice Ibrahim Buba of the Federal High Court, Enugu on Thursday September 26, 2019 for ‘forum shopping’ and abuse of court process.

Mr. Omorogbe had gone to the Federal High Court, Enugu with an application to strike out a suit filed by several members of COSON led by one of Nigeria’s most prominent musicians, Prof. (Sir) Victor Uwaifo, in which the COSON members asked for damages and injunction against Omorogbe for unlawfully parading himself as Chairman of COSON.

1n July 2018, Justice A.M. Liman of the Federal High Court ordered Efe Omorogbe to stop parading himself forthwith as Chairman of COSON. With the order still in force, Efe Omorogbe who had earlier lost an application to stop the suit, filed an appeal at the Court of Appeal in Enugu. He is also presently facing criminal charges at an Igbosere Lagos Chief Magistrate Court for alleged impersonation and forgery of COSON documents.

Reacting to the latest developments, Mr. James Ononiwu of the Lagos law firm of Whitedove Solicitors, lawyers to COSON, who was in Enugu for the Efe Omorogbe proceedings said, “COSON is a first class Nigerian organization belonging to thousands of creative people who look up to it for their sustenance. It is one of the most respected CMOs in Africa. The amazing growth of COSON has made all kinds of charlatans scheme to take it over and milk it.

“I have said it before that anyone, no matter who he is, who aims one blow at COSON will receive five hot blows in return. The members of COSON are determined that no one will intimidate their organization. They have told us to give close marking to anyone who wishes to mess with COSON or Chief Tony Okoroji, their chairman, freely chosen by them who has led them to build this great Nigerian institution. Our brief is to go to any court, including the Supreme Court, to protect COSON, an important legacy of the Nigerian creative industry. We take this brief seriously and we are 100% committed to the assignment”.
