The frenzy that accompanied the master blaster event christened “COSON in the Church” which held everyone spell bound last Sunday December 1, at Revival Assembly in Ogba has hardly evaporated. The masterpeacce event which kick started the 2019 COSON Week will dovetail into the Mosque as members of Copyright Society of Nigeria (COSON) this Friday, December 6, join the Muslim faithful at Ramat Islamiyya Mosque on Muslim Avenue in Ikeja for special prayers for the music industry and the Nigerian nation.
This is in keeping with the COSON Week tradition which in 2013 saw members of COSON storm the Lagos Central Mosque at Nnamdi Azikiwe Street in Lagos Island for COSON in the Mosque. During the 2015 COSON Week, the members of COSON worshiped at the Ikeja Central Mosque at Alausa. At the last COSON Week in 2017, COSON was in the Mosque again at the Folawiyo Central Mosque on Alhaji Masha Road in Surulere.
Said COSON Chairman, Chief Tony Okoroji about the unfolding events, “We are an organization with membership from every tribe and every religion in our country. We respect the different inclinations of our membership which has been a significant source of our strength. The biennial COSON Week has given us tremendous opportunity to fraternize with different segments of the society, dedicate our organization and members to the continued protection of the Almighty, socialize and ensure that the COSON brand remains a vibrant and living brand. We are celebrating specially in 2019 because not long ago, our organization went through the kind of challenges that would have sunk many others. The Almighty has protected us and given us the opportunity to continue to thrive. We give to him all the thanks and praise”.
Currently, the COSON All Stars Table Tennis Blow-Out is steaming at the COSON House Arena with hot serves, spins, loops and smashes with many sweating to dethrone the reigning champion, singer comedian and top of the bill compere, MC Don Pedro Delphinus and take home the giant trophy and the mouth-watering cash prize.
The 2019 COSON Week will come to an end on Saturday December 7 with the 2019 COSON Lecture which takes place at the magnificent COSON House on Oluwaleimu Street, Off Allen Avenue, Ikeja. This year’s lecture will be delivered by Mr. Emeka Mba, an exceedingly brilliant mind who was DG, National Film & Video Censors Board and DG National Broadcasting Commission.
The inaugural COSON lecture in 2013 was delivered by Prof Helge Ronning, Chairman, Norwegian Copyright Development Association (NORCODE) with His Excellency, Mr. Rolf Ree, Norwegian Ambassador to Nigeria as Guest of Honour. The 2015 COSON Lecture was delivered by Prof. Bankole Sodipo with His Excellency, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as Guest of Honour and legal luminary, Prince Bola Ajibola, as Special Guest. The last COSON Lecture in 2017 was delivered by the Hon. Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Geoffrey Onyeama, one-time Deputy Director-General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). Chairman of the lecture was the nation’s guru of Intellectual property law, Prof Egerton Uvieghara.
With the quality of the minds that have consistently gathered at each of the lectures, the COSON Lecture series has easily become Nigeria’s most sought after event for the discussion of creativity, content and developments in intellectual property across the globe.
