The Diocesan bishop of Lagos, (Anglican Communion), Rt. Rev. (Dr.) Humphrey B. Olumakaiye has urged Nigerian leaders to live a life of sacrifice and steer affairs in the country to the benefit of citizens.
Olumakaiye who said this in his 2019 Easter message also urged citizens to remain resolute in their prayers for Nigeria so that they can overcome the forces militating against the progress of the country.
“As we celebrate Easter, I encourage our leaders to live a life of sacrifice and love for the people. They should should be committed to governance. Citizens should continue praying for the country to overcome both internal and external forces competing with the glory of the country”, he said.
He advised Nigerian Christians not to lose hope in the face of the teeming problems facing the country, but look upon Jesus Christ who brought hope to humanity through his resurrection from death.
“One of the messages of the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ is hope that Jesus brought to us through his resurrection from death.
“We cannot overemphasize the various challenges facing us as a nation, especially our dwindling economy, insecurity and poor state of infrastructure among others.
“Passing through all these, we ask the question, ‘is there hope?” Yes, there is hope for our nation through our resurrected saviour, Jesus Christ. In all these, we are encouraged that there is hope for a better tomorrow through the power of resurrection”, he said.
While assuring Christians that all who belong to Christ will through faith in him, share in his victory, the bishop added that the resurrection of Jesus also shows that the power of God can turn things around for good.
“God created us to live with purpose, working toward goals with a sense of anticipation for things to come. The story of Jesus’ resurrection is one that give hope to us”, he said.
