The Diocesan bishop of Lagos, (Anglican Communion), Rt. Rev. (Dr.) Humphrey B. Olumakaiye has tasked Nigerians to be united as a people as the nation is about to experience another era in her political history.
Olumakaiye who gave this charge in his 2019 Good Friday message also urged Christians to walk in the path of holiness, righteousness, adding that they should draw closer to God and always do what God has called them to do.
“Jesus’ sacrifice, suffering and death for sins of all generations teach us the virtue of selfless living, giving, loving, caring and serving. He allowed himself to be arrested and his disciples to be left alone without been molested.
“When Jesus stood there and said ‘let these go there way’, he meant for the enemy to let you go; for you not to be taken into bondage. He has pre-negotiated you go your way into prosperity, into peace and into love by negotiating this release on your behalf”, he said.
While condemning the incessant attacks on innocent citizens and increased insecurity in the country, he called on the leaders and the relevant agencies to ensure that they perform their duty of securing the country in order to have a peaceful nation.
His words: “It is no longer news that there have been several attacks on innocent citizens and several ups and downs in our nation. These developments are disturbing. However, as we celebrate Easter, our leaders, security agencies and all of us indeed should remember that we have a duty to perform in order to have a peaceful nation.
“One of the lessons we can derive from the cross is unity. The cross ultimately unites us together in Christ. There is no other time than now that true patriotism should come to play, we must preach and practice unity in diversity irrespective of our religious and political ideologies.
“Finally, as we celebrate Easter, let us determine in our hearts to be committed to God in every way as individuals, families and as a nation. Let us have living faith in God to move our country forward. This day, I declare, Nigeria will know peace, Nigeria will know unprecedented progress and transformation.”
