Drama scene at school Cultural Day in Lagos
Primary school pupils on Friday sued for unity among various ethnic groups in Nigeria to move the nation forward.
The children of Champion Baptist Academy, Festac Town, made the call during a drama sketch at the school’s Cultural Day celebration in Lagos.
According to them, only one tribe cannot lift up Nigeria.
“We should stop tearing ourselves apart, killing one another or harming ourselves.
“Let’s see ourselves as brothers and sisters, and take Nigeria to where we want it to be,” the children said.
The Headmistress of the school, Mrs Mfon Obong Ojerinola, told NAN that the event was aimed at helping the students appreciate the different cultures in Nigeria.
“We want to show everyone that no matter where we come from, Nigeria is one.
“The children are showing the marriage settings and how the three major tribes conduct marriages,” she said.
Nicole Odafe, a primary four pupil, said Cultural Day was a day for them to come together to promote different cultures through food, dressing and songs.
Chidimma Enemchukwu, a primary three pupil, said cultural day was when the school, “come together, eat different cuisines and sing different songs together.”
The Yoruba, Ibo and Hausa marriage ceremonies were showcased in drama at the event.
Different groups also displayed dances from their tribes.
Mrs Nora Rufai, a parent, urged parents and guardians to always encourage their children to partake in such events and also make out time to attend.
“We shouldn’t look at it as a waste of time. These children will benefit more from it,” she said.
