The Imo State Police Command has set up a high powered investigative panel made up of senior police officers to investigate the alleged assault on a junior female police officer by the DPO, Orji Police Division, Supol Okereke Udeh in Owerri, the Imo State capital.
The DPO was on Thursday 18 January 2018 said to have manhandled a female police officer attached to his division, identified as Corporal Blessing Nwoji with her uniform badly torn during the physical attack that left hospitalised.
A senior police officer in the police headquarters, Owerri told our reporter that before setting up the panel, the commissioner of police, Mr. Chris Ezike had personally quizzed the DPO.
According to the source, the special investigation panel upon the directive of the CP has invited Udeh to a meeting to provide more details to the panel that would assist them in conducting a very discreet investigation into the complaints and allegations against him.
The source added that police commissioner, dissatisfied with the medical report presented by the female officer, ordered for a fresh medical report from the officer in charge of medicals at the police hospital Amakohia, Owerri.
The panel, according to the source, was told amongst other things to establish a case of insubordination because according to him, the highest integrity of Nigeria Police Force I’d discipline.
According to investigation, trouble started between the DPO and the female officer when the senior officer who was posted newly to the station, was said to have demanded to the woman who has not shown up for work in past six months when he resumed work as the DPO is Orji Police Station.
It was learned that the police woman joined her annual leave with maternity leave to spend close to six months away from work. But, two weeks after her leave ended, she was said to have continued to stay out of work, a development that infuriated the DPO, who ordered her to report to work immediately.
It was learned that when the woman reported to the office, the DPO assigned her to control traffic at Orji Junction.
However trouble was said to have escalated when the DPO who was passing along the road, sighted the female officer without cap.
Our source said disclosed that the DPO who was apparently pissed off with the woman’s disciplinary issues, came out from his car and started taking a picture of the woman in her inappropriate dressing.
Upon sighting the DPO, the female officer was said to have charged towards him and locked him up to collect the phone from him.
This action was said to have angered the other subordinates who were in entourage of the DPO as they gave the female officer the beating of her life.
