About 14,400 litres fuel were yesterday dispensed free by the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) to motorists at a filling station along Gwagwa-Deidei Road in Abuja.
The product was dispensed free to the public because the station was selling above pump price and not licensed by the DPR.
The DPR during an operations led by its Abuja Zonal Controller, Abba Misau also arrested the owner of the station.
While briefing newsmen after the exercise, Misau said that the fuel station was operating illegally at the area.
He blamed the resurgence of fuel queue in the FCT on the instability of product supply to Abuja and environs.
“But we have been given assurance by the PPMC that the product supply will be stable,” he said.
The owner of the fuel station, Danladi Eya said he bought the fuel from the licensed marketer which he said covered his operations.
Misau said the operators of the station will be handed over to the Nigeria security and Civil Defense Corp (NSCDC) for prosecution while the FCT developments control would demolish the property if it does not have approval.
