Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State has donated 85 motorcycles to neighbourhood watch groups in the 17 local government councils to help them beef up security in their respective areas. The governor, recently, during a stakeholders’ meeting at Nsukka announced that his administration would donate five motorcycles to each of the local government councils as a way of supporting their efforts to reinforce neighbourhood watch groups currently working hard alongside various security agencies to tame criminality. Speaking at the state office of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria, ALGON, on Tuesday, the governor, who was represented by the Commissioner for Local Government Matters, Mr. Chijioke Edeoga, said “the presentation of these motorcycles is to aid the increasing consciousness with regards to security and community policing in all the local government areas.” He assured that the state government would continue to do more to promote all relevant agencies and bodies working to ensure the security oflives and property. He lauded the current efforts of local government chairmen whom he said have contributed a lot in curbing criminality in their respective areas. The state government is presenting these motorcycles to aid the increasing consciousness with regards to security and community policing in all the local governments. “This administration has done so much to protect lives and property in the state. These motorcycles are just to argument what has already been done.” Also speaking, Special Adviser to the governor on Security Matters, BrigadierGeneral Fred Eze,rtd, said the presentation of the motorcycles which he called ‘the enablers’ will go a long way in enhancing the task of securing the state, stressing that certain terrains where suspected criminals reside can only be easily accessed usingmotorcycles. In his remarks, the state ALGON Chairman, Prince Cornelius Nnaji, said the presentation is to support local government chairmen in reducing crimes to the barest minimum. He said ALGON is grateful to the governor who made the donation in spite of the present harsh economic condition andconsidering the fact that his administration has done a lot incombating crime in parts of the state.
